A sketch can start a company

A sketch, pen to paper, can start a company. In fact there are many stories of it happening this way. Are you ready to take this brave first step?

It takes bravery to take the first step into an idea. Start with an idea and sketch it out. This is the time when there are no barriers and no limitations.

Sketching transforms ideas into action

A sketch is the moment a dream begins to take shape. It moves the idea from “someday” to “something” and brings it into the now.

A sketch is not the answer but it’s the first question: How might we? It’s at the very beginning of the process when there are no limitations only dreams and inspiration.

A sketch is an act of commitment

Suddenly it’s not “I wish” but “I think”. It’s the first step out the door. The first steps down the road.

It’s an act of belief

  • Sketching signals you believe the idea is worth exploring.
  • Even a rough drawing carries intention and commitment.

Go with it!

Don’t wait for permission

When you sketch you are telling your critical mind to take a back seat, and you let your creativity roam free. Think about the problems later.

You don’t have to get anyone’s approval. This is the time to strike.

Create a sketch backlog

One of my favourite design thinkers is Todd Henry who I have been following for the past 20 years! From him I’ve learned to save up my ideas when they happen, and to not wait for inspiration to strike. It never comes when you need it so you have to grab it when it makes an appearance.

Keep a notebook with you at all times, you won’t regret it.

One of Todd’s most poignant messages is “Die Empty”. Don’t wait till the end to realise time is precious, and start getting your ideas out now.

Sketch your ideas and put them in a book so you can find them again (organisation is key to good idea storage!)

What are you waiting for?
