Designers, Product Managers and Developers are not separate entities, they work together with Stakeholders to help their Users.
The PM hears about a need and then reviews it with the Designer. They come up with a plan and start reviewing it with Stakeholders.
Once the problem is understood, and verified as solved, then a conversation starts with Developers to get it built.
How much of the solution already exists (design framework) and how much is new? The more we can create new designs with the existing framework, the better.
Devs start building, and the PM and Designer are there to answer questions. Tell Devs about the user’s problems – they care just as much as the Designers and PMs do.
Everyone being aware of the problem to solve means we are already rowing in the same direction.
Keep checking in with Users to make sure you’re on the right track.
Being more specific, use a whiteboard tool like Miro to document decisions, and a tool like Figma to create prototypes before you build anything.
The trick is to not lose the story as it’s handed around and discussed. Make sure the message gets from users to your developers with as little distortion as possible.
Use the story as inspiration and you can’t go wrong.
